Generations and privileges collide in the world premiere of local playwright and attorney Kristin Andrea Hanratty’s new play as we’re all asked: if not all people are treated equally by the system, at what point do we need to bend the system, and at what point does it break?
While high-profile trials occupy the nation’s collective consciousness and determine the fate of billionaires, six strangers from Northern Michigan are summoned to serve on the jury for a trial surrounding a Hispanic teenager’s alleged minor misdeeds. In their confined quarters, the group must grapple not only with the case at hand but what it means to be fair and just in a society that is not just or fair to
everyone. Is it possible to do what’s “right” when the law is black-and-white, but the world is anything but?

Fred is the founder of Actors’ Theatre. He is the recipient of 15 directing Grand Awards, the Norma Brink Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Arts Council Arts Award. This show is his 71st production directing for Actors’ Theatre.
Kyle is the Executive and Artistic Director of Actors’ Theatre. His directing credits include Hundred Days (Director) with Actors' Theatre, Eurydice (Assistant Director) with Grand Rapids Community College, Sweat (Co-Director) and August: Osage County (Assistant Director) with Actors' Theatre, and The Motherfucker with a Hat (Assistant Director) with Mixed Roots Collective. Kristin’s first play was performed as part of Actors’ Theatre's Living on the Edge 10-minutes play festival and she is thrilled to have Petty Crimes come to life through the talent, hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this production. A Grand Rapids based writer, Kristin’s plays have been performed throughout the United States including, Bird (Puzzle Piece Theatre, Detroit, Michigan), Wine (The Boathouse Theatre, Lake Tahoe, CA), The Curse of the McClures, (Michigan Playwright Festival, Theatre Nova, Ann Arbor, MI), The Job Interview (Durango, CO, Arts Annual Play Festival,); and Worthless Gods (Frostburg University Theatre, MD, One Act Play Festival.) Her short play 20 Avon was the grand prize winner in the 2023 Theatre Oxford 10-minute play festival. Kristin’s play In the Driver’s Seat, telling the story of innovative 1950’s women auto designers, is being performed at the Lorenzo Cultural Center in Macomb, MI through April 2023. She is a finalist for the Henley Rose Playwright award and the Pickering/Colbeck award for playwrighting excellence.
Elizabeth has been involved with the local theater scene for the last few years, serving as Props Designer for Actors' Theatre productions of If/Then, The Flick, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, The Burnt Part Boys, The Wolves, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. She is thrilled for the return of Actors’ Theatre and the opportunity to stage manage and be a part of the design team of Petty Crimes.
Heidi is incredibly grateful to be working with Actors’ Theatre for the first time. She is a recent graduate from Michigan State University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. While she is most notably known for her Acting and Directing credits, she is excited to be stepping into a management role.
Josh is a Grand Rapids area lighting designer with 10+ years of theatrical experience. He studied music and theatre at Grand Rapids Community College and is currently the Auditorium Manager/Technical Director at Belding High School. He has recently designed shows for Circle Theatre (The Play That Goes Wrong), Actors’ Theatre (Hundred Days), GRCC Players (A Doll's House, Part 2), Ionia Community Theatre, and various local high schools.
Kelly has been an active part of the Grand Rapids theatre community for about 28 years. Having costumed many shows for Actors' Theatre Grand Rapids such as Fat Pig and Grey Gardens, Kelly gladly returns for Petty Crimes. Outside of the theater, Kelly works full-time as Operations Supervisor for JCPenney.
